The Garden Room

When we moved in to this historic farmhouse, the one thing that we thought was missing is a room with a view. We also wrestled with the lack of a way to host my husband’s parents, who would be traveling a long distance and staying a while but also have accessibility needs.

We also longed for a way to dine outside conveniently! There is a tiny porch leading to the kitchen but barely fits half of our 7 member family at one time. There was another patio more suitable to dining, only it was buried on the far side of the house and had multiple levels and steps to get to it – not very accessible!

We decided to do away with that patio and replace it with a first floor level Garden Room. Flooded with light from windows all around, the Garden Room will be a peaceful retreat. No electronics, just a perfect place to read or have comfortable chats with friends. If you’re staying over, you’ll get to enjoy a farmhouse-style full bathroom, complete with rustic vanity and vessel sink paired with a more-modern, curbless shower entry.

Wrapping around from the Garden Room to the Kitchen door, a timber framed porch will grace the rear of the home so we can fully enjoy the garden and field views while eating outdoors as much as possible.

We are super excited as all the finishes start coming in! The big event is coming up though… when the timber porch will be raised by an incredibly talented barn builder from Trout Run, PA – August Barn Co working alongside our amazing contractor, C Goodman Carpentry.

Now if only we could decide on a patio finish! There doesn’t seem to be any contractors available to do such a project this year, but it would be good to have a finish chosen…
